Spring Break..not quite what we were expecting!

So Spring Break 2015 has come and gone. It started off with birthday celebrations for our girl and a couple of beautiful days! Then came the sickness and the rainy cool days. Poor Drew came down with a fever on Saturday night (March 14th). He had been coughing and had a bit of a sore throat the two days before the fever showed up. Luckily he wasn't feeling too terribly bad and was able to enjoy a little St. Patty's Day Parade on Sunday and then daddy grilled some yummy kabobs for us that evening. It felt like we were in the middle of spring.

On Monday, Drew woke up feeling good other than his cough so we went ahead with our scheduled portrait appointment. We were documenting Wyatt's 6 month birthday and of course we had to get a picture of all 3 kiddos. The weather hit a record high that day and we did enjoy the 80 degree day a bit. Later that night Drew's fever returned. We cancelled plans on Tuesday, but Drew woke up feeling good (other than a cough). We ran some errands and Drew seemed back to normal, later that night his fever returned. It returned just in time for me to call and talk to the nurse at our pediatrician's office. I was told to give it another day or two and then come in if things aren't getting better. So we cancelled our Wednesday plans.

Again Drew woke up feeling normal Wednesday morning (other than a cough) so we went to see Cinderella, which was a great movie! Drew did not want to see it at first (figured it was way too girly), but guess what.... he loved it! Later that evening, Drew's fever returned...are you seeing a pattern here? I was so baffled at this point that I decided were were going to see the doctor for the walk-in hours first thing Thursday morning. We also had to cancel our Thursday plans with friends. About 8:15 on Thursday morning we got to the doctor's office. Drew did not have strep, he did not have ear infections, no pnenomina, and no bronchitis. The doctor was also rather baffled. She ended up giving us a prescription for Amoxcillian just in case we didn't see improvement. We try not to over use antibiotics if they aren't needed. So Thursday evening comes and guess what Drew gets a fever and it isn't just in the 99's like it was the rest of the days. It gets up to 101 before I give him ibuprofen. He also starts barking like a seal (croup maybe). I then decide at 8:30 that night that we should give the antibiotics a try. So we got them and gave him his first dose that night.

On Friday morning Drew wakes up fever free and the cough seems to be back to a normal cough (no more barking). About 9:30 am Drew mentions he thinks his fever is back and sure enough it is and the bark comes back. The poor kid can't catch a break. The fever continues the rest of the day. Saturday morning I start to get a bit worried. He's now had this darn thing a week, so I give our doc office a call (they are open Sat mornings during the winter/spring). The nurse consults with the doc who's in and calls back to tell me that we need to let the antibiotics work for 72 hours before taking the next step (chest x-ray and blood work). So 72 hours later will be Sunday night. I wasn't wild about this answer, but it helped to hear they aren't overly worried and wanted to see him asap. Saturday continues and Drew continues with a fever. We were told to treat his fever, where before we were said if his fever didn't get too high then just let him go. So at this point we started treating the fever around the clock.

So here we are on Sunday...Drew woke up with a fever and the cough is still there. We treated the fever all day. Luckily Drew's spirits aren't too affected. He's tired and gets cold when the fever creeps back, but he's been staying busy with basketball. He is loving every minute of this March Madness. He's been consulting his bracket, my bracket, and Mike's and then he's taken it upon himself to write out other brackets and then he's created his own tournaments. He may be a bit obsessed and a bit of a nut! I love watching his excitement especially when there isn't much else he can do. Every time he picks up a ball to play and he starts coughing really badly. This kid isn't used to sitting around. He's been looking at the window at all the neighbor kids play. Poor little man. Now we are just hoping and praying we get some answers tomorrow so we can get this little guy back to normal!!!

Drew lost his 5th tooth!

Drew just lost tooth #5. Daddy helped a bit by pulling this one and #4 out, but they were just hanging there! I love the double gap up top! He's so proud!!! Eating some foods proved to be rather difficult today, but he sure is cute!

Anna's 5th Birthday Party with Friends

We had Anna's friend party yesterday. She invited 5 friends, but only 4 could come. We had the girls come to our house for cake, play time, and present opening and then we headed to the nail salon to get manicures and pedicures! It was the perfect party for Anna and a perfect number of friends, the girls all got along and had a great time. Anna picked out a Frozen cookie cake, mint chocolate chip ice cream (and I grabbed some cookies n cream ice cream). She suggested her friends wear a costume if they wanted. I can see this type of a party being repeated - it was simple and fun!
