Toy Story 3 on Ice

 

What a fun day!  Today we surprised Drew with tickets to Toy Story 3 on Ice.  Anyone who knows Drew knows he's a die hard Toy Story fan!  There isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't play with his Toy Story toys.  He got his first Woody and Buzz toys on Christmas in December 2009 and he still loves them and we've accumulated about two million other Toy Story toys and items.  So when I heard the show was coming to the Sprint Center I decided we were going. no We were able to leave Anna with Ma & Pa, which ended up being a great decision.  We got some alone time with Drew, which rarely happens.   And after the show Mike, Drew, and I decided Anna wouldn't have lasted through the show, it was a bit long!  She just wouldn't be able to sit that long, she likes to move too much.  

We didn't tell Drew what the surprise was until we got there.  I hope we never forget the look on his face from the second he saw the ice and all the Toy Story gear for sale.  He was amazed.  Disney sure knows how to sell their merchandise, it was unbelievable all the different things they had for sale.  Not only did they have stand after stand outside the show, but they had people going up and down the aisles (like they do at baseball games) selling things.  The guys would yell out "Who wants cotton candy?" or "Who wants  a Buzz or Woody...."  The second Drew saw the Woody hat it was over.  He wanted one!  He's always been more of a Buzz fan than Woody, but today things might have changed.  

We got there early and Drew and I sat in our seats while Mike got some food.  He came back a while later with his hands full of goodies and a Woody hat on his head.  I wish I had a picture of Drew's face.  he was so excited.  He didn't ask for another thing, he was thrilled!  He wore that hat proudly and was good about taking it off during the show because we were afraid he might block the view of the kid behind him.  This new hat that is not the sturdiest of hats and is made of foam cost a pretty penny...but Drew has played with it all night and the look on his face when Mike gave it to him was priceless.  

The show was great.  Drew loved it and Mike and I were quite amazed by the whole production.  It was such an exciting day.  On the way home I told Drew we were going to pick up Anna and his face lit up.  It was so nice having time with our little guy, but it also was so great seeing him get excited to go pick her up.  What a great day!

A Visit with Nana the Great

 The kids and I finally got to visit Nana the Great this morning!  Since we've all been sick numerous times since early January we hadn't been by to visit Nana this year.  We even had to miss her 91st birthday party in February.  It was fun being able to see the kids interact with Nana.  She just loved watching them play and she held Anna a couple times.  Anna is on the move a lot these days, but she did enjoy sitting on Nana's lap.

On our way to see Nana this morning Drew said to me, "Mom I sure can't wait to get a sucker."  That put a smile on my face because Drew remembered that every time we went to see Nana and PopPop he always got a sucker from PopPop.  Pop Pop the Great had magic powers and always was able to find a sucker in Drew's hair.  I had to remind him that PopPop wouldn't be there.  We had our little conversation about heaven again.  When we were walking to Nana's room we were near PopPop's old room and Drew  pointed it out.  Drew has such an amazing memory (it has been over 9 months since he's gotten a sucker from Pop Pop the Great). 

Drew is so observant these days.  He saw an elderly women who wasn't looking so great and said, "she's sick" mom.  We were also walking out and there were a couple elderly people sitting by the door and Drew said, "that guy looks mad."  Too bad he was only a few feet away, I'm hoping he didn't hear Drew.  Nursing homes can be sad to visit, but at the same time as we walked through the halls the kids put a smile on several people's faces.

New Kicks

We took Anna to get her first official walking shoes tonight.  This little girl doesn't really wear shoes or socks for that matter.  She takes her socks off every second she gets no matter what the temperature.  Every time we get somewhere we have to first put Anna's socks back on.  I haven' messed with shoes much because they are just another thing to put back on her feet.  Now that she's walking I thought be better find some shoes she will keep on and be able to walk in outside.  She got her first pair of Nikes tonight.  She walks great in them and she was able to get one shoe and sock off before we got home from the shoe store.  So much for finding shoes she can't take off.  She is one little character, we never had any issues with socks or shoes with Drew.  He still prefers we help him take his socks and shoes off.  Just one more example on how siblings can be so different!

PB&J (Anna's first and Drew's millionith)

We go through a lot of peanut butter and jelly in our house.  If you know Drew you know that he's one picky child, but he loves his pb& j!  He's been known to eat it twice a day.  Mike also eats pj&j for lunch almost of every day.  I don't eat it that often, but do really like it . Well Anna had her first pb&j sandwich the other night.  She's a fan!  I know you are supposed to wait until age 2 or 3 before giving kids peanut butter.  We didn't with Drew and he was fine and so we figured Anna would be too.  Technically she had her first taste of peanut butter a few weeks ago when I accidentally gave her a bite of my peanut butter cup ice cream - I didn't even think about it.  We figured Anna would be fine because Drew has eaten it almost everyday since she was born and I'm sure she's had peanut butter touch her constantly because Drew is always so hands on with her.  So chances are if you stop by our house someone might be having some peanut butter or better yet we all might be having peanut butter for dinner.  I love those meals that everyone will eat and it is easy to make too!

Evenings spent outside

This past week started off pretty warm here in KC.  Now we are expecting some snow tomorrow (boo!).  I love the start of spring (but I could do without these little teasers).  I was able to get the kids outdoors when we got home on Monday and Tuesday.  Both kids love it outside and the fresh air wears them out!

Cousin Time at the Park

Last Sunday we spent a couple hours at Shawnee Mission Park with cousin, Peter (Uncle Greg and Aunt Kelley were there too)!  All three kids enjoyed the beautiful and windy weather.  Greg flew his kite until it broke, we saw some ducks and geese, and then played at a playground. We brought Drew's kite, but he threw a fit when we took the kite out of the car.  He did not want to lose it or break it.  It was ironic that Uncle Greg's kite ended up breaking, I'm pretty sure Drew was happy he decided not to get his kite out!  After the park we met Pa and Toots for dinner.  It was a fun day (until Anna ended the day with a 102 temperature...poor baby).
