Playing in the Snow

 

The snow has added a lot of fun to our weekend!  Drew has really been enjoying the snow.  Anna didn't like sinking in the deep snow or the sledding.  She made it down hill once time and that was enough!  Drew loved sledding, but wouldn't go down on the sled alone.  He did however enjoy sliding down on his rear end.  Fun times!

Snow Day!!!

Last night before any snowflakes hit the ground school was cancelled.  I wasn't really dead set on a snow day because I really don't want to be going to school in June, but once I got the news I of course was excited.  Teachers are probably worst than the kids about this snow day stuff.  The weather is all the teachers could talk about at school the last two days.....so funny!

I enjoyed sleeping until 6:45 when Mike's alarm went off.  The kids slept in until after 8.  After Mike went to work and saw a patient or two he headed back home for a family day.  The kids have been enjoying a fun day at home.  They always amaze me with the games they come up.  I have also been very productive, reorganized Drew's dresser and bookshelf.  I've also been battling the never ending pile of toys.  One of these days ALL of the toys will be organized and in the basement, but since my kids won't hang out in the basement without mom or dad I have to find ways to organize the toys on the main floor.

Anna has also been wearing some big girl pants.  She's had two accidents and has yet to get anything in the potty chair...some day!  I'm not officially starting potty training, but it can't hurt to "practice." 

We are all expecting another snow day tomorrow.  

Last Month in the Two's

Dear Anna,

How can this be?  How are you almost 3 years old?  You just turned two and that was tough enough . Drew is supposed to be 3, not you (too bad he's already 5).  Our littlest baby is getting so BIG!

You have been very busy growing up these days. You are very independent lately and you aren't asking to be held all the time.  You keep yourself busy with your pretend play.  You love playing babies and dress up.  You also are really starting to get into your princess castle.  Your attention span has grown and you now really enjoy tv and movies (not that this is a great thing).  You still get up and play during a show or a movie, which is good!

You are starting to take a little interest in letters and numbers.  It helps that you see your brother wanting to learn how to read, add, and subtract.  You know how to spell your name and can point out the A's.  You know a couple other letters and numbers (I haven't taken inventory lately). 

You say the funniest things and I haven't been great about writing everything down, I just know daddy and I are constantly laughing at your funny ways. 

This month you've been working on your dance moves, gymnastic moves, and singing.  You love putting your tutu on and having a dance party.  I hope to get you signed up for dance or gymnastics once I get you potty trained (one of these days I'll get brave and get started on that). 

I just signed you up for preschool at a church near my school, but I'm still hoping things work out and you can come to preschool at my school!  Our baby will be heading to school soon, crazy!

You are still taking naps most days and you sure love your sleep.  You aren't a fan of being woken up during the week.  You cover your head with your blankets and try hard not to get out of bed.  Your hair is really growing in and you look like you have bangs right now, but we are growing your hair.  You would rather not wear anything in your hair, but I insist on doing something to your hair (a little bit of hair pulled to the side or braids although you have random short hairs that stick up all over).  You typically pull out your rubber bands at nap time if not before. 

Now let's enjoy this last month of your twos.  We love you so much Nans!

5 years 4 months

Dear Drew,

Talk about a HUGE academic month for you!  My sweet boy started reading!  We are currently working our way through the kindergarten BOB sight word books.  There is definitely some memorizing along with some sounding out of words.   You are so darn proud of yourself and want to read every night with me.  I'm thrilled. We also do the sight word flashcards that correspond to the books.  You don't always remember the words out of context (lots of memorizing of the stories).  We are also working on some beginning sound worksheets.  You are getting more and more confident with your letters, but you don't like being challenged too much.  You get mad sometimes when I ask you to sound out words. 

 You and Anna love playing together these days.  You two are always playing house (you just don't know it is called that).  You are the daddy and she's the mommy.  You go to work and then you have a "daddy day" and stay home with the babies.  You do get frustrated with Anna quite a bit these days, which is understandable she can be quite a stinker and she knows how to push your buttons.

The other day you had quite a fall on the concrete when you were with Ms. Megan.  She said it was a  HARD fall, but you didn't cry at all.  I know you try to be all tough with other people, if daddy or I would have been there I'm sure we' would have had plenty of tears.  Well a couple days went by and I noticed your elbow where the cut was had gotten all swollen.  We weren't sure if it was broken or just infected so we went to Urgent Care.  It ended up it is infected and you got an antibiotic, your first chewable one!  Wow!  our boy is so big!

You are a huge talker these days, you are always analyzing things and discussing things you see on tv or out and about in the world.  I think you could talk all day long!  You are such a smart boy and you just keep on surprising. us.  You were playing your Umizoomi game on your DS and you were putting numbers in the 20's and 30's in order.  You don't necessarily know the name of those numbers but you told me you knew how to put them in order. "You just look at the last number (ones column) and put it in order."  I was impressed because I've been trying to explain that to some of my 2nd graders.  You are going to be my little mathematician!

You are still playing superheroes all the time and you are into playing with your cars and Legos too.  We talk about kindergarten from time to time and you get very upset when I tell you that you are going to a new school.  You don't want to leave my school and your friends there.  I recently told you that you'd be going all day and you'll get two recesses, that seemed to excited you.  Later on daddy talked to you about kindergarten and you said you weren't sad anymore because you get two recesses.  Funny boy!

Now onto another fun filled month of growth!  We love you so much!
